Irene Penazzi was born in Italy, near Ravenna, though currently lives and works in a small town near Venice. She has a degree in Illustration from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and completed an internship at the Hamburg University of Applied Science (HAW Hamburg, Germany). Irene loves to draw in a traditional technique with colored pencils and watercolors. Irene's images are inspired by her childhood memories and the nature that surrounds her. She is the author and illustrator of three books published by Maison Eliza (France):
Dans le jardin (
In the garden, 2018),
Dans la montagne (
In the mountains, 2021),
A la mer (
To the sea, 2024). The book
Nel mio giardino il mondo (
In the garden, Terre di mezzo editore, 2019) was selected in the Ibby Honour List 2020. Her illustrations were showcased in the “Italian Excellence. The New Generation of Children’s Illustrators” exhibition at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2021. Irene is a very curious person and thinks that the best way to know something is to draw it.
