Hello, my name is Claudia Favilli. I’m an illustrator based in Umbria, Italy, and I grew up in Foligno, surrounded by a landscape of history and medieval frescoes that still shapes how I see, narrate, and use colour. I create picture books, editorial illustration, comics, and non-fiction for schoolbooks, with a strong interest in history, science, and current events, using expressive traditional marks and textures whenever I can.
I studied art history at the University of Perugia, then continued with a three-year school in illustration and comics in the same city. I’ve worked professionally since 2016 and have been self-employed since 2022, after also gaining experience in-house at a publishing house. I’ve collaborated with Gallucci Editore, Mondadori, Giunti Scuola, Gruppo Editoriale La Scuola, Eli La Spiga, Hungry Tomato, Óðinsauga, and Bear Tale. I’m especially fond of my work on three books in Gallucci’s Lilliput series and on a series for Óðinsauga. My process starts on paper with character studies, sketches, and storyboards, and clients value my reliability, clear communication, and respect for deadlines.
I think my love of images began early, while looking at the frescoes and historic architecture around me and wondering how stories could live inside walls, colours, and faces. That sense of curiosity is still with me. It’s nourished by quiet, ordinary things: practicing yoga, hearing my cat purr, walking in the woods, cooking with seasonal ingredients, drawing with my son, and playing with my dogs, a Jack Russell and a Great Dane. I hope my work carries real feeling, and that now and then a drawing meets someone exactly where an emotion begins.
