DK | Read Aloud Series
DK
Together with DK Learning and our sister agency CWLA, we wrote, designed, and illustrated this read-aloud series celebrating world folklore. Featuring 11 classic tales from around the world, the World Folklore books were carefully designed to engage a modern audience while retaining the integrity of the original stories. Every effort was made to ensure authentic voices were heard in the telling of these tales, which meant sourcing authors, illustrators, and sensitivity readers who represent the unique cultures of the stories being shared. The result was a diverse range of stunningly illustrated books, each one as distinctive and unique as the next.
In conjunction, we also created a collection of American Tales books, telling both true stories of heroic achievement and renowned fables from the New World. These 11 books feature prominent real-world heroes, such as Harriet Tubman and Sacagawea, alongside myths and folk heroes, including Paul Bunyan and Bigfoot. Here, too, great care was taken to enlist authentic storytellers, and we were fortunate to work with creatives from every continent—making this a truly global collaboration.
Across both series, each book includes discussion questions and craft activities to help children, teachers, and parents engage more deeply with the stories, building vocabulary and igniting a passion for reading.
