Hi, I’m Rodrigo Arthur, a children’s editorial illustrator based in Camaragibe, Pernambuco, born and raised in Brazil’s Northeast. My work is deeply shaped by Brazil’s rich visual culture, natural landscapes, and by a lifelong love of classic animation and children’s books. I create vibrant, textured visual stories for different age groups and formats, moving between humor, adventure, cozy nature, animals, and emotionally sensitive narratives.
I’ve worked professionally as an illustrator for the past year and a half, after years of focused self-directed study in visual arts, children’s literature, and picture book storytelling. My process starts with the text, then moves through briefing, references, sketching, and final digital painting with canvas-like textures. Among the books I’ve illustrated, Zizi não quer ser bailarina stands out for its emotional subtlety and expressive atmosphere, while Operação Matemática let me build adventurous scenes across different historical eras of mathematics.
I’ve been drawing since I was three, and for a long time I was simply the kid who draws. I’m naturally quiet and observant, and that still shapes how I look at stories and images. Outside of editorial work, I love painting, drawing, movies, animation, series, and the music that follows me every day. Weightlifting also plays a big role in my routine, keeping me disciplined and grounded. When people see my work, I hope they feel curious, moved, and genuinely delighted.
