German publisher Magellan came to us with an otter-ly brilliant concept for a board game, and Collaborate were happy to provide the adorable animal artwork for the project. Having already collaborated with Magellan on several nature-themed puzzles, our studio artist Jenny was delighted to pick up her Wacom pen once again for a much-loved client. She had this to say when she saw the final product: “I love that the game pieces are made with wood rather than plastic! It’s a premium-feeling box; the packaging design team put so much care into making the game sustainable and environmentally friendly. And I had so much fun painting shimmering water effects and fluffy otter fur. It’s so satisfying to see it all come together!”Otter World is a collect-and-trade family game for 2–4 players, where sea otters dive and barter for seashells and shiny stones. To bring that playful, watery world to life, thirty-one illustrations were required in total, including the main box art, four colourful otter player pieces, and many small elements like tokens and cards. With so many pieces of different shapes and sizes, the biggest challenge was maintaining a cohesive visual style across the whole game, keeping details legible without compromising on the charming nature imagery.
